June 30, 2016
To the Samuel L. Gravely, Jr. Elementary Community:
It is a great honor to be introduced as the proud Principal of Samuel L. Gravely, Jr. Elementary School. I am excited for the opportunity to work closely with the exceptional staff, phenomenal students, and amazing community of Gravely Elementary. I believe that great schools are a result of amazing teachers, enthusiastic learners, and a supportive community. Together we will continue to provide high quality instruction and prepare our students with 21st century skills, developing leaders and innovators that will impact our global community.
Throughout all of my experiences I have focused on building positive relationships, developing the potential of others, and fostering a school climate in which all students can be highly successful. I have been privileged to spend the past five years serving as Assistant Principal at Newington Forest Elementary School in Fairfax County. During the past four years I have delivered professional development to fellow assistant principals, and was recognized by the Virginia School Boards “Showcase for Success” for my part in the development of an annual “Best Practices in Special Education for Administrators” Cohort. As a Physical Education and Adapted PE teacher I have taught in New York, North Carolina, and Fairfax County. My educational background includes a master's degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia, along with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education with a concentration of Adapted PE from State University of New York College at Brockport.
I have been a member of the Prince William County community for the past 8 years, living in Bristow with my wife Sarah, and three children Leah (8), Landon (3), and Quinn (1). When not at school I enjoy spending time with my family, exercising, and rooting for my hometown teams, the Buffalo Bills and
Sabres.
As we begin to develop our relationship, I am eager to meet you and your family. Please join me for a meet and greet on Wednesday, July 13th or Thursday, July 21st from 6:30-7:30 pm for popsicles on the playground. If we have inclement weather, we will meet in the auxiliary gymnasium.
I look forward to working collaboratively as a school community to build upon the tradition of Gravely Elementary as being a School of Excellence.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve this great school community.
Sincerely,
Michael
Kelchlin
